Programs Kick Off Again After Festival Season
Festival time is over and the Support Centre is now open again, with the new Basic and Advanced Tailoring Course already underway. Ten slightly nervous students arrived promptly last Monday morning and were soon making friends and getting to grips with learning how to use the treadle sewing machines. Anyone who has tried to use one will know that they’re not easy to master, especially when you’re trying to sew in a straight line at the same time, but they were soon ready to start on their first item – pot holders for the kitchen. In the next two weeks we’re running more sanitary pad training, our Design Course will start on 2nd December and we’re running another Well-Woman Camp at the centre on 7th December.
We feel really blessed because things could so easily have been very different this week. A fire broke out just above the Support Centre, caused by an unattended candle over Laxmi Pooja. The entire floor was gutted, with the main fire directly above our tailoring centre. Unbelievably we didn’t have any fire damage at all, just some blackened windows. We dread to think what might have happened and are just so grateful!
